The client list
What a client record holds, and how the list is organised.
A client is a business or a person your firm acts for. Everything else in Orin hangs off one: engagements, tasks, documents, time and invoices all belong to a client somewhere up the chain.
What a client carries
- Jurisdiction. UK or Ireland. This is not cosmetic: it decides the deadlines, the filing vocabulary and the currency.
- Currency. Derived from the jurisdiction rather than chosen. GB gives pounds, IE gives euro.
- A manager. The person accountable for the relationship.
- A status. Where the client is in its life, from a draft record through to an active client.
You do not pick a currency. Changing it means changing the jurisdiction, because a client filing in Ireland invoiced in pounds is almost always a mistake rather than an intention.
Drafts
A client you have started adding but not finished is a draft. Drafts are counted beside Clients in the menu so an unfinished record does not sit forgotten.
Finding one
The search box in the top bar searches clients. Type a name and press enter.
Common questions
A client is missing from the list. Check whether it is filtered out by status before assuming it was deleted. Drafts and inactive clients are real records that the default view may not show.
Can I delete a client? Records with history are not removed, because their invoices and logged time have to stay answerable. Clients are made inactive instead.
