Capture: letting Orin read documents
What document reading does, what it costs, and the spend limit that stops it running away.
Capture reads documents and pulls the details out of them, so an invoice arrives with its dates, amounts and supplier already filled in rather than waiting for somebody to type them.
It costs money per document
Reading a document uses a paid service, priced by how much text it contains. That is why Capture has a spend limit and a usage screen, and why neither is optional.
The limit is a stop, not a warning
When the firm's spend limit is reached, Capture stops reading. Documents still upload and still file; they arrive without extracted details until the limit is raised.
What the price list could not price
Some documents cannot be priced in advance: an unusual format, or a model with no published price for what was used. Those appear separately on the usage screen rather than being folded into the total, because a cost that was estimated should not be presented as one that was measured.
Batches
Documents are read in batches, so a bulk upload is one job rather than fifty.
Common questions
A document was not read. Check the spend limit first, in Capture settings. It is the most common reason and the least obvious one.
Everything it extracted is wrong. Do not confirm it. Correct the details, then confirm. Confirming is what makes them official.
Where do I see what this has cost? Capture settings shows what has been spent against the limit.
