Frequently asked questions

Twenty things people ask in their first month, and the short answer to each.

Updated FAQ

The short answers. Each links on to the article that explains it properly.

Getting in

I cannot sign in. Use the forgotten-password link. If the email does not arrive, check junk mail, then ask an administrator which address your account uses. See Signing in.

I was signed out suddenly. Sessions expire, and an account put on hold ends its session immediately. If it keeps happening, ask an administrator.

Can I sign up myself? No. Accounts are created by your firm.

Finding my way

A menu item a colleague has is missing for me. Access is granted per area. Ask an administrator. See Roles.

Nothing in the sidebar is highlighted. Some screens are reached by clicking through from elsewhere and light nothing, deliberately.

Can I choose which page Orin opens on? Yes. The star beside a page title pins it as your landing page.

Work

A task I expected is not on my workspace. My Workspace shows tasks assigned to you. Unassigned work does not appear.

Why is a task late when the work is done? A task closes when its status says so. Logging time does not close it.

What is weightage? How much of a parent task a subtask represents, so progress counts work rather than steps. See Tasks.

Capacity says somebody is free and they say they are not. Capacity only knows about work recorded as tasks with hours. See Capacity.

Why are there dashed rows on Capacity? They are forecasts from recurring engagements, not real tasks yet.

Time and money

Do I have to submit a timesheet every week? That is your firm's rule. Orin will let you submit late.

I submitted the wrong week. Ask your approver to return it. A submitted week cannot be edited while it waits.

What counts as non-billable? Real work that is not chargeable. Log it: it is how your firm learns what a client costs.

What is WIP? Billable time logged and not yet invoiced. See Billing.

A rate changed. Does old time change? No. Time is valued when it is logged.

Clients and documents

Why can I not raise an engagement for a client? It is probably still a draft. Acceptance has to be finished first.

A colleague cannot see a document I filed. The document's type restricts it. See Document types.

A document was not read by Capture. Check the firm's spend limit first. It is the most common reason.

Something is in Quarantine. Open it: the reason is on the document, and it is usually about the file rather than its contents.

Everything else

Is Aiden always right? No. Check anything that matters. See Ask Aiden.

Where do I report something wrong with Orin itself? Tell whoever administers Orin at your firm. If a help article is wrong, press No at the foot of it and say what you were looking for.
