Adding a client

The acceptance flow, and why Orin asks for the things it asks for.

Updated Clients and engagements

Adding a client is a regulated act rather than a form. Orin walks you through acceptance in order, and each step exists because a regulator expects your firm to have done it.

  1. Start from the client list

    New client on Clients.

  2. Say what kind of client this is

A company, a sole trader, a partnership or an individual. This decides which details are asked for next.

  3. Identity and jurisdiction

The registered name, the registration number where there is one, and whether the client files in the UK or Ireland.

  4. The people behind it

Directors, partners or owners, as the kind of client requires.

  5. Accept or hold

Complete the acceptance checks. A client can be saved as a draft at any point and finished later.

A draft client is not a client

Work cannot be delivered against a draft. If a colleague says a client does not appear when they try to raise an engagement, an unfinished acceptance is the usual reason.

Common questions

I do not have all the details yet. Save it as a draft. Drafts are counted beside Clients in the menu so they are not forgotten.

Why does Orin ask for identity documents? Anti-money-laundering rules make your firm responsible for knowing who it acts for. Holding the evidence in one place is what makes that answerable later.
