Uploading and filing
Getting a document into Orin and attaching it to the right client or engagement.
Documents live in one place and are filed against the client or engagement they belong to. A document nobody filed is still safe, but it is only findable by whoever uploaded it.
Filing
Filing a document means saying which client, and often which engagement, it belongs to. Once filed, it appears on that client's record, so the next person to pick up the work can find it without asking you.
File as you upload. A folder of unfiled documents is a job somebody has to do later with less context than you have now.
Storage
Your firm has a storage allowance, shown at the foot of the sidebar. It is a firm-level fact rather than a personal one, which is why it sits in the rail rather than on the Documents page.
Common questions
Can I upload the same document twice? Yes, and Orin will not stop you. Check the client's documents before uploading something a colleague may already have filed.
Somebody cannot see a document I filed. Access is decided by the document's type. See Document types.
