Onboarding evidence and confirmations

What a new client still owes you, and how to see what is outstanding.

Updated Clients and engagements

Accepting a client starts a list of things you need from them: identity evidence, confirmations, signed documents. Onboarding is that list, tracked per client until it is empty.

Evidence and confirmations are different things

  • Evidence is a document: a passport, a certificate of incorporation, proof of address.
  • A confirmation is an answer: the client stating something you are required to ask.

Both can be outstanding, and both hold up the same thing.

Seeing what is outstanding

Onboarding outstanding lists every client with something still missing, and how long each has waited.

Time is the number to read on that report, not the count. One item outstanding for four months is a bigger problem than six items outstanding since Tuesday.

Common questions

The client says they sent it. Check the client's documents. Evidence arriving by email is not filed until somebody files it, which is one of the reasons a connected mailbox is worth setting up.

Can work start before onboarding is finished? Orin will let you, because sometimes it is right. Whether your firm allows it is your firm's policy.
