Your first week

What to do first, in the order that makes the rest of Orin make sense.

Updated Getting started

Nobody learns a practice management system by touring it. This is the order that gets you useful fastest, and each step is a real thing you will do again tomorrow.

  1. Secure your account

Add two-factor authentication in Security. Two minutes, once.

  2. Look at your plate

Open My Workspace. Everything assigned to you, across every client, is here. Start with the Late tile if it is not zero.

  3. Log some time

Log time against a task you actually worked on today. Doing it once now is worth reading three pages about it later.

  4. Connect your mailbox

So client correspondence sits beside the work. See Inbox.

  5. Find one client

Open Clients and look at a record end to end: its engagements, its tasks, its documents. That one record explains the shape of everything else.

Set your own landing page. The star beside a page title pins it, so Orin opens where you actually start your day.

What can wait

Reports, Settings and Billing can all wait until somebody asks you for something. They are for questions you do not have yet.

Common questions

My workspace is empty. Nothing has been assigned to you yet. That is normal in a first week; ask whoever manages your work to put a task on you so you can see the shape of one.

Am I expected to fill in a timesheet every day? That is your firm's rule rather than Orin's. Ask, then see Timesheet.
