Help and community
The community forum
Ask and answer questions with practitioners at every firm on Orin, and the rules that keep clients out of it.
The Community is a discussion board for practitioners across every firm on Orin, in Ireland and the United Kingdom. You ask a question, other practices answer, and the best answer can be marked as the one that worked. Open it from the Community tab in the Help Centre, or from Community in Orin's help panel.
Everything here is read by other firms
The form says it in these words: Visible to every firm on Orin. Do not include client names, figures or documents. Some posts are held before they appear, for somebody at Ayphen to read.
Steps at a glance
Asking a question
Step 01
Find what has already been asked
Open Community. Narrow the list with Jurisdiction (Any, Ireland, United Kingdom), Show (Everything or Unanswered) and Sort (Latest activity or Most upvoted), or pick a section on the left.
The Community. In the demo business no discussion has been posted yet. Unanswered means nobody other than the person who asked has posted, so a thread where the author added a clarification still counts as waiting for an answer.
Step 02
Start a new discussion
Press New discussion and fill in:
- Title: at least 10 characters, written as a question.
- Section: Practice management and operations, UK and HMRC compliance and tax, Irish Revenue and compliance, or Orin tips and feature requests.
- Jurisdiction this is about: what the question concerns, which is not always where you practise. Leave it at Neither, or both if it applies either side.
- Tags: up to five. Common ones sit under the box, or type your own and press Add.
- Your question: describe the situation and what you have already tried. Basic formatting such as
**bold**and lists works; Preview shows how it will look.
The new discussion form. Step 03
Choose how you appear
Under How you appear on this post:
- Post as yourself shows your name and your firm's name. Both stay on the post if you later move firms.
- Post as a practice handle shows a pseudonym and does not name your firm. The first time, choose your handle: 3 to 24 characters, starting with a letter, using lower-case letters, numbers and hyphens. You confirm the exact spelling before it is taken.
Choosing a practice handle. A handle hides you from other firms, not from Orin
Other firms will not see your name. Orin staff can see it if a post is reported. A handle is chosen once and cannot be changed afterwards.
Step 04
Post it
Press Post discussion. Usually it goes straight up: Your discussion is posted. Sometimes it is held for review first: Your discussion is held for review. Nobody else can see it yet. Held posts are listed under Unpublished in the sidebar, with the reason if one was not published.
Posting was not carried out for this article, so no discussion appears in the screenshots. The outcomes above are the messages the form shows.
Reading and replying
- Use Add your answer on a discussion, or Reply under an answer. Replies go one level deep.
- Upvote an answer you found useful. It is one vote per person, you cannot upvote your own, and there is no downvote.
- Whoever asked can Mark as the answer on one reply, and Unmark as the answer later.
- A reply from Orin is badged Orin Support. A firm administrator's posts carry Verified Firm Admin.
- A Locked discussion takes no new replies; everything already written stays readable.
When something should not be there
Every discussion and reply has Report. Choose what is wrong, with Contains confidential or client information first because it is dealt with ahead of everything else, and press Send report. A moderator at Ayphen reviews it, and the author is never told who reported it.
You can Delete your own posts. A discussion cannot be deleted once somebody has answered it. A reply that was upvoted, accepted or has replies under it stays as a marker so the rest still reads, with your words removed.
Common questions
Can other firms see which firm I am at?
When you post as yourself, yes. Under a practice handle, no.
Can I change my handle later?
No. Check the spelling when you confirm it.
Can my clients read this?
No. The client portal does not reach the Community.
