Engagement letters
Producing the letter from a template, and getting it signed.
The engagement letter is the document the client signs. Orin produces it from a template your firm maintains, so every letter says the same thing in the same words with only the particulars changed.
Merge fields
A template is ordinary prose with merge fields in it: placeholders that Orin fills from the engagement. The client's name, the period, the services and the fee all come from the record rather than from retyping.
If a letter comes out with a blank where a value should be, the engagement is missing that value rather than the template being broken. Fill it in on the engagement and produce the letter again.
Getting it signed
A letter is sent for signature and the client signs it in their browser. No account is needed at their end: the link in the email is the authorisation.
A signing link is specific to one person and one document. Forwarding it forwards the ability to sign, so it should be treated like a signature itself.
Common questions
The client says the link does not work. Signing links expire. Send a fresh one rather than trying to revive the old one.
Can I edit the letter before it goes? Yes, but changes made to one letter do not go back into the template. If the same edit is needed every time, the template is what should change.
