Task types and Document types
The lists your business classifies work and documents with, and who may see each kind of document.
Two lists your business classifies with. Task types label your work. Document types are what documents are filed under, and who may see each one. Both lists are your business's own: Orin seeds them once when your business is created and never touches them again.
For business administrators
Task types needs permission to view tasks, and adding or changing a type needs permission to manage capabilities. Document types needs permission to view documents. Task types sits under the Practice tab of Settings.
Task types
A task type sets a task's label and colour, can require a capability before someone is assigned, and filters the boards. For a step, it decides how the step is completed. It does not affect billing or capacity.
Step 01
Open Task types
Go to Settings, choose the Practice tab, then Task types. Added by shows whether Orin or your business added each one. General is the default and cannot be deactivated.
Task types. 1: Add task type. Step 02
Add a task type
Press Add task type. Enter a Code and Name, an optional Glyph, its Position in the list, and a Colour from your palette. Press Add task type.
Adding a task type. The colours come from your palette. Step 03
Edit or deactivate
Use Edit to change a type. Deactivate takes it out of every picker without touching work already classified with it.
Below your types, Subtask kinds lists the kinds Orin ships. Your business cannot change these.
Document types
This is access control, not only filing. Which permission groups may view, edit, delete or download a document depends on its type. A new type has no access until you set it, and shows No access configured; until then only a business admin can see its documents. The full explanation is in Document types and confidentiality.
Step 01
Open Document types
Go to Settings, then Document types. The top of the page summarises this month's document processing and storage. Tick Show inactive to include retired types.
Document types. 1: Add document type. Step 02
Set who may see a type
Press Set access on a type. For each permission group, tick View, Edit, Delete and Download as needed. Edit, Delete and Download all need View, and Delete also needs Edit; ticking one turns on what it depends on. Press Save access.
Setting access for one document type. Step 03
Decide whether clients can see it
The Client can see switch on each row decides whether clients can see documents of that type. It changes as soon as you switch it. Personal papers about candidates or staff are never shown to clients.
Step 04
Add or retire a type
Press Add document type to add one; access opens next so you can set it straight away. Deactivate takes a type out of every picker without touching documents already filed under it.
A member in more than one group gets everything their groups allow between them, and a business admin always sees everything.
Next steps

Common questions
A colleague cannot see a document.
Check Set access on its type, and which permission groups the colleague is in.
Does deactivating a type remove it from existing work?
No. Existing tasks and documents keep their type. It is only removed from pickers.
