Working calendar
Your working week, half-day split and closures, which every due date, deadline and person’s hours respect.
The working calendar is which days your business works and which it does not. Every due date, every deadline and everybody's available hours are worked out from it, so it is one of the most important settings in Orin and one of the least obvious.
For business administrators
Anyone allowed to view the business profile can open it. Changing it needs permission to manage the business profile.
What reads it
- Due dates and recurrences roll off non-working days.
- Capacity places hours only on working days. See Placing work with Capacity.
- Hourly rates: whether a day is a weekend or a bank holiday for pricing comes from here. See Hourly rates (setup).
- People's hours: anyone whose own hours have not been set inherits the working week.
Setting your working week and closures
Step 01
Open the working calendar
Go to Settings, then Working calendar.
The working calendar. 1: Add closure. 2: Save changes. Step 02
Set your working week
Under Working week, tick each day your business works and set its Start, End and Break (min). Net hours is worked out for you, with the weekly total underneath.
Step 03
Set the half-day split
Half-day split is when a morning off ends and an afternoon off begins. A half day takes off the hours of that part of a person's shift, and lunch comes out of the afternoon.
Step 04
Save the working week
Press Save changes at the foot of the page. Cancel discards your edits.
Step 05
Add a closure
A closure is a period your business is shut beyond the usual weekends and bank holidays: an office move, a Christmas shutdown, or a day off Orin does not know about. Press Add closure, choose the First day and Last day (both are included), enter a Reason, and press Add closure. No work is scheduled on those dates. A closure is saved straight away; it does not wait for Save changes.
Adding a closure. Closures may overlap each other and bank holidays; Orin adds them together rather than refusing. Use Edit or Remove on a row to change one. Deadlines already worked out keep the date they were given; future ones follow the change.
Bank holidays come from the region of each person's office, so you do not enter them here. If the same reason is entered more than once, the panel on the right lists it under Entered more than once. A yearly closure legitimately has one row per year.
When it has worked
The Your week panel shows how many days are working days and how many closures there are. A new closure appears in the list with its length in days.
Next steps
- Set weekend and bank holiday rates in Hourly rates (setup).
- Check office regions in Locations and Colours.
Common questions
We work Saturdays.
Tick Saturday and give it hours. Otherwise capacity steps over every Saturday and rates treat it as weekend work.
Placement or rates look wrong for one person or one week.
Check this calendar first, including closures, and the region of the person's office.
